Thanks to everyone for your support and your votes! I've been a finalist every year since the contest began, but this was my best year ever. Looking to do it even bigger next year!

It is absolutely amazing how many professing UXers are nothing more than glorified UI designers fronting their way through the "hallways" of UX. They're fine talking about anything from a visual or coding perspective, but as soon as you start talking about things related to UX, they clam up, get angry, and try to steer the conversation in a different direction.

Those same folks will say that this is the statement of a gatekeeper (revealing they have absolutely no idea what a gatekeeper is — a quality advocate). Please note the following:
⠀
• Anyone upset with accountability is a detriment to the discipline.
• Anyone who can't discuss and doesn't at least have a genuine interest in UX is fronting.
• Anyone stressing out and splitting hairs about pixels, colors, and the like, outside of accessibility, is (likely) fronting.
• Anyone who gets angry when factors critical to UX are discussed is fronting.

Repeating something from the most recent UX ChitChat Hour, if you're gonna work in UX, instead of focusing on "getting a check," please do yourself and the discipline a favor by LOVING THE DISCIPLINE. You'll help the discipline, optimize presentation of self (and your team), AND you'll get a check.

Collectively, we must start honoring the discipline that we're operating in. AND shame on the companies that send out poseurs and retrofits, claiming they're UX practitioners. It's highway robbery.
